These prompts are designed to help you generate a starting point for a comment bank using ChatGPT. They may still need checking and amending, but they can save time and help you get started more quickly. They may not work perfectly for every assignment, but they should still save you time in getting one set up.
These prompts are designed to follow the flow of the assignment. Even though they may generate a large number of abbreviations, you do not need to remember them. You can simply open a comment box and use the side panel to click and insert comments in order, following the structure of the assignment as you mark.
No need to memorise abbreviations.
To use these prompts properly, you will need a ChatGPT account so that you can attach an assignment brief.
You can do this with a free ChatGPT account.
Why this matters
These prompts work best when ChatGPT can analyse the actual assignment brief. If you are not signed in, you may not be able to attach files, which means the prompt will be less accurate.
How to get started
These prompts are intended to give you a strong starting point. You may still want to edit the wording, remove comments you do not need, or add comments specific to your own marking style. They are generic prompts, so once you recieve your ouput from ChatGPT you can ask ChatGPT to make any changes you feel are necessary.
Best for BTEC-style assignment briefs where tasks contain multiple requirements and Pass, Merit and Distinction are applied across tasks.
What it does
This prompt analyses the structure of the brief, splits tasks by command words, identifies marking points, and generates a structured comment bank linked to criteria.
Prompt
Best for criteria-based assignments, where each criterion is assessed more directly and individually. For example, where criteria point 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 has pass, merit and/ or distinction available.
What it does
This prompt treats each criterion separately, breaks tasks into evidence elements where needed, and generates concise, spreadsheet-ready comments for pass, merit, distinction and not achieved.
Prompt
Best for assignments with a single learning outcome or broad grading criteria, where the task is broken down into multiple sections or required content. For example, NCFE level 3 assignments or BTEC tasks where Pass, Merit and Distinction are applied across the whole task rather than separate criteria points.
What it does
This prompt follows the structure of the assignment task, breaks it into specific marking points, and generates clear Pass, Merit and Distinction comments for each part. Comments are written using the wording of the task so they can be pasted directly into student feedback without editing.
Prompt
Feedback Assistant allows teachers and assessors to create and manage a bank of feedback comments in Google Sheets. Each comment is linked to a short abbreviation, allowing them to quickly insert consistent, detailed feedback during marking. Users can organise multiple comment banks across different spreadsheets and tabs created and managed within the application, allowing them to manage feedback for different subjects, units, or classes.
When working in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, users can type an abbreviation in a comment box, and the extension automatically replaces it with the full feedback comment.
The extension operates only within comment boxes and does not modify the main document content.
The extension uses Google authentication to securely access the user’s Google Drive and Google Sheets.
It creates and manages its own folder and comment bank spreadsheets within the user’s Google Drive, and reads and updates data only from those spreadsheets.
The extension does not access or scan the user’s entire Google Drive and does not access emails, contacts, or any unrelated data.
Feedback Assistant requests access to Google Drive using a limited scope that allows it to create and manage its own comment bank spreadsheets and folders within the user’s account.
It also interacts with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides to insert feedback comments into comment boxes based on user input.
Feedback Assistant does not collect personal data, track user activity, or transmit data to external servers.
All data remains within the user’s Google account or local browser storage and is fully controlled by the user.
